Formula 1 Racing - Trackside Database

In conjunction with a leading F1 racing team, CDP developed an information system which managed the complex parameters used to configure a racing car for peak performance.

The system recorded the configuration of a variety of the car's components (e.g. aerodynamics, suspension, tyres) during testing and pre-race laps. It also recorded results in terms of timings and driver comments for each configuration.

Written in Oracle Forms 6 and backed by Oracle 8i database, the system used a number of different screens which interacted with one another to give engineers and mechanics different views of the configuration and to communicate requests for changes and actions performed between the two.

LapConsole developed by the Renault F1 team

What is this lapConsole application made of ?

Renault F1's Release group needed a new tool to reorganize all engine part numbers to attach costs, time and other data to groups of part numbers. This console was based on Tomcat/Oracle and was connected to another ERP, SAP module. It allowed to reorganize a corpus of several thousands items in less than a week, and that would have been impossible by other usual means. This tool combined with the wpsConsole was quite simple and yet it allowed the engineers to test and evaluate the technology and see how fast it was to implement.
